Introduction

The Bottom of the Pyramid (BOP) has emerged as a dominant concept in business, propelled by C.K Prahalad’s “The Fortune at the Bottom of the Pyramid”. The BOP is the largest, but poorest socio-economic group with a global population of 3.7 billion and 60% of this population lives in china and India who earn less than $2 per day. This has a different and interesting economics and it is a surprise for the managers. The BOP market raises a new managerial challenge for the world’s wealthiest companies to produce and distribute products and services in culturally sensitive, environmentally sustainable,  and economically profitable ways. Doing business with this market will require radical innovations in technology and business models where most advanced technologies are creatively combined with existing infrastructure. It will also require MNCs to re-examine priceperformance relationship for products and services. India, in particular, has created a mark on the global map with the concept and has been successful in changing the perception of the world from a manufacturing and back-end process hub to a research and innovation Hub.
